The excitement and anticipation that comes from knowing that a vacation to Disney is in the near future can’t be beat. Adding a countdown calendar to your Disney trip will add even more magic to your days leading to check-in.
I love a themed meal. Pairing Disney themed meals with Disney movies that are related to the parks we will be visiting is one fun way that we countdown our days to our Disney vacation. We usually try to have one themed meal each week. I used to try to have a themed meal every night once we reach the 100 days countdown, but it cut into planning time for our trips. I would definitely recommend doing this once per week.
In this post, I will share our Toy Story themed meal and a movie! I am a busy mom of three, with all of our children involved in sports and the arts. Anything fast and easy is right up my ally. If you are a busy mom in the same situation, You’ll love how easy this is!
Pizza Planet Pizza
The main course for this movie night was pizza. Since we were watching the original Toy Story movie, I knew that we had to incorporate Andy’s beloved restaurant, Pizza Planet. I got both pizzas from Walmart. They were the Marketside brand. The extra large pizza was a crowd pleasing five cheese pizza. The medium pizza was supreme. Both needed to cook 13-15 minutes each.
Hamm's Pig Tail Knots
Next, we had Marketside Savory Garlic Knots. These are hand-tied, and look like the cutest little pig tails. They were easy to make. You keep them in the bag to bake. Just poke a few holes and pop them in the over for about 9 minutes.
Bo Peep's Sheep Salad
For Bo Peep’s Sheep Salad, we used Marketside shredded iceburg lettuce, Nature Fresh Farms red grape tomatoes, and Great Value sharp cheddar shredded cheese. My kids are not big on fancy salads, so this basic salad was all that we needed. This took no time to prepare. I just poured the ingredients out of the packages and into the dishes.
Slinky's Spiral Pasta
We couldn’t leave our good pal Slinky Dog out of the mix. To honor Slinky, we had a cold spiral pasta. Did I tell you that I need things to be quick and easy? This is my kind of meal prep. I picked up two Taylor Farms premade American Style Pasta from Walmart, mixed the ingredients together in a bowl, and called it a day. This dish included rotini pasta, grape tomatoes, black olives, southwest style white chicken meat, cheddar cheese, and smoky ranch dressing.
Mr. Cantaloupe Head
Although I love all fruits, including cantaloupe, I must disclose that my kids are not the biggest fans of cantaloupe. Nevertheless, the cantaloupe was a perfect way to include Mr. Potato Head, even if it was for the looks on the table. Also, it doesn’t hurt to keep offering, right? All that I needed for this was to wash our Mr. Potato Head parts, poke a few holes in the cantaloupe, and insert the parts into the cantaloupe. I got the idea from another blog post with a Mr. Potato Head fruit tray that looked so good, but again, it has to be quick and simple for me, and honestly my kids would not have eaten the fruit with all of the other food available. Find the original Mr. Potato Head Fruit Tray on the Get Your Holiday On HERE!
Alien Jello
Of course, since the main course of this meal was inspired by Pizza Planet, we had to incorporate our alien friends, too! I got this idea from another blogger, as well, and I put my own spin on it. Check out Totally the Bomb for the original version HERE! Instead of using the lime flavor of Jell-O, I opted for the Starburst brand of Watermelon gelatin. I was in a hurry, as always, so in the prep stages, I used ice instead of cold water to speed up the process. It took about an hour and 45 minutes from start to finish to get the jello ready. The cups were Great Value brand, and so were the candy eyeballs. I just carefully placed the eyeballs where I wanted them once the jello was ready.
Sid Snacks
Sid, although not a friend, only appears in the first episode of Toy Story. I wanted to pay a little tribute to the toy nemesis of all of our childhoods. While in the bakery section of Walmart, these black and white little cupcakes caught my eye. They reminded me of Sid’s black shirt with the white skull. Bonus, the Oreo Mini Cupcakes were very tasty!
RC's Cola
My intention for our Toy Story themed drink was RC Cola to make reference to our favorite Toy Story car, RC! However, WalMart did not have any 2 liter RC Cola in stock. As a mother of three has learned over the years, improvising is so much better than driving around town all night looking for the 2 liter of RC Cola that I so wanted for this meal. The kids love Dr. Pepper. Since we don’t normally keep soda in the house, this was a big treat for them anyway. We renamed Dr. Pepper to RC’s Cola, and it worked out!
Buzz Juice
Since our toddler is not a big fan of soda, we added a special treat for her. What toddler doesn’t love the Good2grow juices. Bonus, all I had to do was pull the wrapper off, peel the lid, replace the top, and we were good to go with the Good2grow Buzz juice!
Rex's Popcorn
I was really at a loss as to what to do for Rex, but who doesn’t love popcorn? In Rex’s honor we added popcorn for our movie night! I used the Great Value brand, and it took 1 and a half minutes to pop.
Buzz's Laser Beams
Essentially, the laser beams are Twizzlers, but again, I love the idea of themes. I just added the twizzlers to a clear jar and told the kids that they were Buzz’s laser beams! I got the idea from Sunshine Momma. Check out Sunshine Momma’s Toy Story Party HERE!
Snakes in a Boot
We can’t do movie snacks for the first ever Toy Story without including the phrase, “There’s a snake in my boot!” For our treat, I wanted to use our clear boot cup, but I learned as I was setting up our table that the cup was in storage. Another mom of three improvising opportunity arose, and I used an old Dixie Stampede boot cup instead. I originally got this idea from Hunny, I’m Home. Check out Hunny I’m Home’s Toy Story Party HERE! While I was shopping for gummy worms at Walmart, I came across these Haribo Twin Snakes gummy candy and thought they were perfect. The package was small, so I got two to make sure there was plenty to fill up the boot!
Table Setup
For the table setup, we used the Celebrate brand at Walmart and grabbed a pack of colorful utensils, paper plates, napkins, and a light blue tablecloth, and a royal blue tablecloth. My girls love helping to set the table up on special nights like this! The Buzz and Woody were from my toddler’s bedroom, but were originally picked up from the Disney Store for Christmas of 2022. They should still have them in stock there.
